  • Company seeks to expand main replacement program and upgrade system controls for enhanced reliability

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI - Veolia, the world’s leader in water and wastewater services, today presented the Rhode Island Public Utility Commission with a $17 million plan for infrastructure improvements through 2026 for the South Kingstown and Narragansett communities.

If approved, nearly 8,930 Rhode Island homes and businesses will benefit from a multitude of improvements in the company’s water distribution, storage and fire suppression systems. By maintaining high-quality water service for its customers and communities, Veolia provides environmental security to support public health, economic growth and community stability.

Chris Jacobs, Manager of Veolia’s Rhode Island Operations, said, “Veolia is committed to providing our Rhode Island customers with high-quality, reliable water service. To deliver on our promise, we will continue to invest in strengthening our infrastructure with new mains and system controls.”

Kendra Morris, CEO of Veolia’s Regulated Water division in North America, said: “We are proud to serve the South Kingstown and Narragansett communities with affordable water service. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that every dollar spent on our system will yield dividends for generations to come in the form of enhanced water quality and overall service reliability.”

Veolia continues to pursue fair and equitable rates for all of its customers. If the Commission approves Veolia’s proposal in full, customer bills would be adjusted by 28%.

New Investments Keep the Water Flowing

Veolia’s $17 million in investments continue to improve water quality, safety and service reliability in the region. Over the past seven years, Veolia has:

  • Completed installation of a 1 million gallon water tank off South Road in South Kingstown. The new Sherman Tank doubles the company’s capacity to service the surrounding community.

  • Replaced nearly three miles of water main along Ocean Road, Bonnet Point Road, River Street, Strathmore Road, Wanda Street and Winchester Drive. These strategic transmission and distribution system upgrades improve service reliability to hundreds of residential and business customers across South Kingstown and Narragansett.

  • Deployed advanced water metering infrastructure that enables Veolia to read customer meters remotely and offer near real-time water usage data. This technology supports improved billing accuracy, leak detection and overall water resource management.

  • Upgraded supervisory system controls that provide enhanced data collection across Veolia’s Rhode Island service territory. Known as SMART SCADA, this system helps operators better monitor and respond to changing conditions, boosting system efficiency and resiliency.

These capital improvements support the goals of Veolia’s global GreenUp strategy, which reemphasizes the group’s commitment to the ecological security of our planet by accelerating water quality improvement, resiliency and technological innovation.
