Haworth, N.J. – Big trucks, big smiles and plenty of community spirit filled the day at Veolia’s Touch-A-Truck event at the Haworth Water Treatment Plant on Saturday, October 18. Guests climbed aboard large vehicles, met the crews who operate them and learned how Veolia keeps reliable, high-quality water flowing to homes and businesses.
Families explored 18 of Veolia’s excavators, dump trucks and utility vehicles along with fire engines, police cars and a Bergen County SWAT vehicle brought by neighboring agencies that joined the fun. Veolia employees and local first responders answered questions and demonstrated how each vehicle plays an essential role in delivering public services and keeping the community safe.
In addition to the outdoor excitement, guests were invited inside the Haworth Plant for guided tours, where Veolia team members provided a behind-the-scenes look at how drinking water is treated, tested and delivered. Visitors gained a firsthand understanding of the science and technology that ensure high-quality water reaches homes and businesses across the region.
About 1,300 people attended the free family fun day at the Haworth Water Treatment Plant. From guided tours and kid-friendly activities to up-close looks at massive service trucks, the event offered something for everyone.
Alan Weland, Regional President of Veolia’s New Jersey operations, said: “We were thrilled to welcome so many families and community partners. It was a wonderful opportunity to share what we do, celebrate our employees and connect with the people and communities we serve.”
Veolia extends its gratitude to the community partners that helped make the day a success. The Haworth Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Harrington Park Fire Department, River Vale Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff's Office SWAT and the Haworth Fire Department all brought vehicles, much to the excitement of the children.
Officer Willie Garcia, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Unit, said: “Events like these are such a valuable opportunity to build strong connections with our neighbors. It was inspiring to see families, children and community partners come together in such a meaningful way. The team did a phenomenal job organizing the event and fostering a spirit of partnership that we were proud to be part of.”
Aligned with the company’s global GreenUp strategy, the event reflected Veolia’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and transparency in its operations. From early planning to on-site coordination, employees and volunteers across the organization collaborated to deliver a meaningful and memorable experience for attendees. Veolia extends its appreciation to the local towns, emergency response teams and partner organizations that helped make the day a success.
