Milwaukee, WIBublr Bikes, Milwaukee's nonprofit bike share system and Veolia North America, the leading environmental services company in the United States, today announced a new partnership to expand mobility, opportunity and accessibility across Milwaukee by sponsoring three new docking stations, 12 electric-assist bikes and 24 standard Bublr Bikes.

"This partnership with Veolia allows us to continue our mission of making bike share accessible to more Milwaukee residents and visitors," said Laura Bolger, Bublr Bikes executive director. “We worked with Veolia and the City of Milwaukee to determine the locations of these new stations, strategically identifying areas that will help us to connect communities through biking.”

“Veolia is proud to be the reliable partner providing environmental security for the city of Milwaukee, its residents and its businesses, and sponsoring the expansion of the Bublr Bikes network exemplifies our commitment to the long-term success of a thriving city,” said Karine Rougé, CEO of Veolia North America’s Municipal Water division. “Reducing carbon emissions from transportation is important, and so is building stronger, more connected communities with sustainable options to reach jobs, schools and parks. We’re here to help Milwaukee do it all.”

This expansion directly supports the city of Milwaukee's vision to develop 50 miles of protected bikeways by 2026. The strategic placement of these new Bublr stations complements Milwaukee’s growing network of protected bike lanes, creating a more comprehensive and safer cycling infrastructure for both commuters and recreational riders.

The partnership, announced in conjunction with Earth Day, is a continuation of Veolia’s operations in Milwaukee and the surrounding region. Veolia is the longstanding operating partner of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) wastewater treatment infrastructure as well as other water, waste and energy projects in Wisconsin, and recently moved 150 employees to a downtown office overlooking the Milwaukee River.

“We are fortunate to partner with companies like Bublr and Veolia that share our commitment to environmental stewardship and community development,” said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “We are nearing our goal of adding 50 miles of bike lanes across the city by 2026 and the addition of the docking stations will help us connect communities through biking and move Milwaukee forward.”

Today’s announcement comes one year after Johnson declared “MMSD/Veolia Ecofactory Day” in recognition of Veolia’s work with MMSD to transform its operations into an Ecofactory, which turns Milwaukee’s wastewater into a stream of green energy, resource recovery and environmental stewardship for the region. Veolia designated it the first wastewater Ecofactory in America, and the Bublr Bikes partnership supports the initiative by cutting carbon emissions and improving Wisconsin’s environment.

As Milwaukee's premier bike share system, Bublr Bikes currently operates over 100 stations across Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and West Allis, creating a robust inter-municipal system that serves diverse communities throughout the region. The addition of these three new stations aligns with Bublr's commitment to building a contiguous, inclusive network that connects neighborhoods and provides accessible transportation options for all residents.

Bublr Bikes remains dedicated to community engagement and integration, working closely with diverse neighborhoods and cyclist groups to expand its network thoughtfully. The organization's commitment to diversity is reflected in its board participation, volunteer programs and its successful bicycle mechanic internship program for Milwaukee's youth. In partnership with the City of Milwaukee, Bublr Bikes will begin a record expansion in 2025, adding roughly 100 new Bublr stations across the city. The expansion will include adding density to the existing Bublr network and expanding into adjacent neighborhoods to continue the mission to connect communities. Additionally, due to the popularity of the electric-assist bikes, an additional 500 e-bikes will be added to the Bublr fleet.
