The U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) has awarded a team of Veolia North America employees based in Boston with the highest rating for workplace safety – the only workplace in the city to receive a prestigious “Star” rating for ensuring employee health and safety.

The “Star” status is OSHA’s highest level of recognition under the Voluntary Protection Program, which recognizes employers for their achievements in worker health and safety.

The VNA team, based in the Charlestown section of Boston, includes 65 field service operators, drivers and managers. The team provides hazardous waste management and environmental services for numerous companies making critical advances in pharmaceutical research in the city's booming biotech sector.

“We are extremely proud of the exemplary work being done by everyone on our Charlestown team to maintain the highest standards for workplace safety,” said Bob Cappadona, ESS President and CEO. “This is a reflection of our commitment to safety across ESS and across VNA. Congratulations!”

The Charlestown team was first recognized with OSHA Star status in 2019 following an inspection of the operation. OSHA conducted another inspection in February, and in July announced that the ESS team in Charlestown would be maintaining Star status for another five years.
