Veolia's hazardous waste team in Fredericksburg, Virginia, has received the highest rating for workplace safety from the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) – a VPP “Star” rating for ensuring employee health and safety.
The Virginia “Star” status is the highest level of achievement under the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, which recognizes employers for their achievements in worker health and safety. Organizations are eligible for Star status after volunteering to undergo a series or rigorous inspections in order to demonstrate their commitment to workplace safety.
The Fredericksburg team received the designation last month after passing a series of inspections by representatives from OSHA and the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. The Fredericksburg team is the 12th location across Veolia's hazardous waste business in North America to receive the prestigious honor.
“It’s something our team has been working toward for many years, and it’s great to be officially recognized for the work we do every day to uphold the highest standards for safety,” said Anthony Hudson, EHS Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Branch.
Anthony said the bulk of the success of the team’s Star designation was due to Sean Ward, the EHS Compliance Specialist at Fredericksburg. Sean began the process of working with the VPP Star program more than 15 years ago, laying the groundwork and developing a close working relationship with the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.
“Sean has been leading this program from the beginning, and he made it into something that everyone at the Fredericksburg location was invested in,” Anthony said.
We are extremely proud of the exemplary work being done by everyone on our Fredericksburg team. This is a reflection of our commitment to safety across Veolia. Congratulations!
