As countries around the world celebrate the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, Veolia North America is being recognized for an innovative approach to preserving energy and precious natural resources in Rialto, California.
Veolia is joining forces with the city and a third partner, Rialto Water Services, to develop and install a unique microgrid energy generation system to power the city's wastewater treatment facility.
The microgrid, which provides greater energy independence and resilience, is powered by a unique combination of biogas, solar power and backup battery storage that will ensure the plant can continue to function even in a time of widespread power outages. That means there's less risk of a shutdown that could lead to spills in nearby waterways, providing greater protection to water resources and wildlife.
