## How we process medical waste sustainably

Sterilized medical waste sent to waste-to-energy (WTE) incinerators helps generate electricity, helping us offset the environmental impact created by the disposal process. The U.S. EPA estimates that 1 ton of waste incinerated for the generation of electricity offsets 1 ton of CO2 emissions.

Water used in the sterilization process is captured for reuse in future washes.

Reusable plastic containers are washed and reused multiple times.

We send what we can for recycling and are always looking for new recycling partners. Currently, we have solutions to recycle single-use cardboard boxes and bales, pipette tip boxes and media bottles.

###  Do you service my ______ clinic?

  

Probably yes! Veolia services dental, veterinary, surgical, and outpatient clinics - any clinic that produces medical waste. We also service physician practices, specialty care facilities, medical spas, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities.

###  What falls under the category of medical waste?

  

Medical waste includes a range of items such as blood or bodily fluids, chemotherapy waste, contaminated animal waste, isolated waste, laboratory waste, pharmaceutical waste, sharps (needles, scalpels), and surgical specimens.



 

 

 

 



###  How should I properly package medical waste?

  

As the waste generator, it's your responsibility to ensure proper packaging and labeling of medical waste. Start by placing a red bag liner into a sturdy cardboard box or plastic tote labeled “Biomedical Waste.” All biomedical waste should be placed inside the red bag and, when nearly full, securely tie the bag and seal the box using packing tape. A transporter label should be placed on the box.



 

 

 

 



###  What is considered by OSHA to be a sharp?

  

Sharps are objects that can penetrate a worker's skin.

Some examples of sharps are contaminated needles, syringes, exposed ends of dental wires, IV tubing with needles attached, lancets, scalpels, and glass.



 

 

 

 



###  Are reusable containers available?

  

Yes! See below:

Sharps Reusable Containers:

- 3.2 gallon and 4.9 gallon wall-mounted containers - drop slot or mailbox style. We can help install these.
- 10 gallon and 17 gallon

Red Bag Reusable Containers:

- Bulk: 200 gallon and 95 gallon containers
- Non-bulk: 10, 17, 31, and 43 gallon containers



 

 

 

 



###  Do you offer document shredding?

  

Absolutely. Healthcare providers often come to us for proper disposal of confidential documents such as patient records. We provide secure shredding and data destruction services that follow the paper trail from pick-up through destruction to ensure compliance. No need to remove staples or paper clips.



 

 

 

 



###  Can I receive Certificates of Destruction for my medical waste?
