Water preservation, ecology protection priorities

Pleasant Hill, Calif., Feb. 27, 2012- Veolia Water North America- West, LLC (Veolia) has been selected by the Cascade Water Alliance (Cascade) to operate and maintain the White River- Lake Tapps Reservoir Project (the Project) in Washington’s Central Puget Sound area.
Cascade purchased the Project from Puget Sound Energy (Puget) in 2010, following Puget's cessation of hydropower production at the Project. Cascade will initially manage the Project to enhance flows in the White River to protect and improve habitat for listed salmon species and to support recreation at Lake Tapps. Ultimately, Lake Tapps will provide long-term municipal water supply to meet the future needs of the Central Puget Sound region. Under the agreement, Veolia will provide operations, maintenance and other related services for the Project. The overall project operations are geared toward maintaining specified minimum flows in the White River and keeping Lake Tapps Reservoir's water at established target levels throughout the year.
“Veolia is thrilled to bring its operational expertise to the Central Puget Sound region. We look forward to meeting the region’s environmental need,” said Jim Good, executive vice president, Veolia Water North America West LLC.
The initial contract is a five-year agreement valued at over $5 million with two options for renewal. The transition in operations to Veolia started on January 1, 2012. Veolia assumes full operations management responsibility on April 16, 2012.
