CHICAGO (March 5, 2012) – Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp. is pleased to announce it has joined the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Clean Cities National Clean Fleets Partnership program. The objective of the partnership is to engage companies that operate large fleets in multiple states to work with the DOE’s Clean Cities initiative to reduce overall petroleum consumption.

“We are very pleased to begin our venture with the National Clean Fleets Partnership, as Veolia is dedicated to reducing petroleum use and emissions through route optimization, alternative fuels and hybridization. We are always seeking additional ways to increase our company’s sustainability and the support of this organization will help us be successful in reaching our goals,” said Jim Long, president and CEO of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc, the company’s waste and recycling collection, transport and disposal business unit.

The initiative provides fleets with specialized resources so they can successfully incorporate alternative fuels and fuel-saving measures into their operations. The National Clean Fleets Partnership was developed with input from fleet managers, industry representatives and the DOE’s Clean Cities coordinators.

Veolia Environmental Services North America maintains a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, heavy equipment and support vehicles across 28 states. As of 2012, Veolia operates four CNG fueling stations and over 100 compressed natural gas-powered refuse collection and support vehicles.

The Partnership is open to fleets that own or have contractual control over at least 50 percent of their vehicles and have vehicles operating in multiple states. The company then works with the Clean Cities organization to develop a petroleum use reduction strategy that meets its needs and goals.
