The Gator™

A SAFE, EFFECTIVE, ADVANCED TANK CLEANING SOLUTION

Cleaning black oil tanks has long been an industry challenge in term of effectiveness, costs and worker safety. For decades, manual labor was the only effective method of cleaning black oil tanks. Yet it exposed employees to a dangerous work environment, plus the process was time-consuming and often expensive. While refineries continually explore ways to reduce risks, no safety measures truly solved this problem until now.

Manway cannons mounted on the shell of the tank is one solution that has been used by many facilities. Yet, there are many drawbacks to this approach. These include a limited range, multiple sessions required, increased cutter stock and an inefficient positioning process that actually moves the sludge away from the point of suction.

There needed to be a safer, more cost-effective and time-efficient solution. Driven by a fierce commitment to world-class service, innovative technologies and stringent safety control, Veolia designed the Gator™ service for unmanned tank cleaning.

WHAT IS THE GATOR™ SERVICE?

Veolia's Gator™ is a tank cleaning service that uses a cutting edge, remotely-controlled sludge-cleaning cannon that makes dangerous manned tank cleaning a thing of the past. Best of all, this proprietary technology is completely automated, much more efficient and more cost-effective than the traditional “manway cannon” appraoch.

Here’s how the Gator™ service is delivered:

  • The Gator™ is driven into the center of the tank, using an innovative ramp system through a standard 24”-inch manway. Its track-mounted body is designed to easily navigate the tank bottom.
  • The operator controls the cleaning remotely from an air-conditioned CCTV trailer, with a panoramic view of the interior floor, ceiling and walls, courtesy of Veolia's third generation infra-red light and camera system.
  • The Gator™ uses a high-velocity stream of sludge-cutting solvent, rifled nearly 360 degrees, to penetrate sludge build-ups and direct it to the point of suction.
  • The camera system, mounted to the top of the Gator™ cannon, records the entire cleaning project for the customer.

THE MOST ADVANCED TANK CLEANING SOLUTION EVER DEVISED

The Gator™ is a high-pressure, high-volume water cannon service that provides you with unmanned tank entry and advanced cleaning capabilities. Even sludge buildups of more than three feet are no match for Veolia's Gator™ service. This innovative technology quickly and efficiently moves the sludge to the return pump suction points located at the shell wall of the tank with much less time, reduced cutter stock and less risk of worker injury.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS AND FEATURES OF THE GATOR™ SERVICE:

  • Proprietary equipment, design and technology developed by Veolia—nobody else has it
  • A much safer method of tank cleaning, taking your team and ours, out of the tank
  • A cost-effective option that reduces crew sizes and the time needed to clean tanks compared to conventional methods
  • A remote-controlled cleaning solution that still provides operators with a clear view of any obstruction inside the tank
