Toronto, Ontario

The challenge

Veolia North America provides environmentally conscious biosolids management solutions with state-of-the-art dryer/pelletizer.

The project challenges are:

  • The City of Toronto retained Veolia in 1998 to support the design and construction of its wastewater biosolids management facility at the city's 216-MGD Ashbridges Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant.

  • In 2003, while the city was starting up the plant, a fire heavily damaged the pelletizer facility and it had to be shutdown.

  • The city and Veolia Water Canada worked together to develop and implement a recovery/reconstruction plan that resulted in a design/build contract to rebuild the facility and its operation, maintenance and management (O&M) was subsequently contracted to Veolia.

  • We also oversee product marketing for the biosolids.

The solution

Innovative solutions:

  • Work with city to develop a Product Marketing Plan for the product that is produced by the facility

  • Work with design affiliate to provide design/build services for the pelletizer facility to produce all-natural, low-nitrogen content fertilizer pellets suitable for a variety of beneficial use applications
