St. Michael, Minnesota

The challenge

Community benefits from Veolia North America’s expert O&M services, perfect safety record

The project challenges are:

  • Veolia began its partnership in 1996, five months before the city's new wastewater treatment facility was completed.

  • After 20 years, the company manages the water supply (a 95-mile distribution system) and wastewater facilities (2.5-MGD sequencing batch reactor, 82-mile collection system, twelve lift stations, 200 grinder pump stations, reed beds, customer service and water/sewer billing).

The solution

Innovative solutions:

  • Manage the plant startup, ensuring compliance within first few weeks

  • Provide presentations and facility tours to demonstrate uncommon treatment process

  • Provide water and sewer connection inspections, meter reading, distribution system repairs, line locates and other services

  • Convert city's outdated meter reading system to electronic radio-read technology

  • Maintain active involvement in community affairs
