Edwardsville, Illinois

The challenge

Savings, safety and capital improvements drive our Edwardsville team

Our longstanding relationship, which began in 1987, has consistently produced significant results. We've delivered more than 18 billion gallons of high-quality water to Edwardsville residents, logged a perfect safety record and saved the city $12 million in capital improvements. Our efforts have not gone unnoticed; Veolia and the city have received several awards from the Illinois EPA, a Public-Private Partnership award, and a 15-year contract extension into 2018.

The project challenges are:

  • Success managing wastewater facility operations beginning in 1987, has led to an expanded partnership that now includes water facility operations and capital improvement programs for a population of approximately 39,000 people.

  • Facilities include a 4.28-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) activated sludge wastewater treatment plant and a 7.78 MGD ground water greensand filtration and zeolite softening plant, as well as 32 pump stations.

The solution

Innovative solutions:

  • Focus on employee safety and employee operational certification including health and safety programs and extensive training such as hazardous materials and emergency response training.

  • Focus on environmental compliance and water quality.

  • Effective planning for present and future capital improvements to meet water supply challenges.
