Cheryln, Administrative Assistant
"About six years ago, the company I was employed with was acquired by Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies North America, shortly after I had started there. Veolia retained my position, and the decision to remain was made easy by the smooth transition, friendly colleagues and great benefits.
"I provide support to supervisors, arrange travel, assist with expense reporting, coordinate meetings and conference calls, and manage the office operations. The diversity of an international company is a source of constant professional-development opportunities. Meeting and working with colleagues from around the world has greatly benefitted me both personally and professionally. Veolia is also very supportive of further professional development.
"There is a great sense of pride and confidence within the workforce. The employees are passionate in their quest to provide the best products and solutions to our customers, and are dedicated to the success of the company. Veolia attracts the best in the industry, and has a highly professional and ethical core. The company genuinely cares about the employees' personal and professional well-being."
Ken, Director of Business Development
"I've been with Veolia for more than 14 years. I was with a company that was acquired by Veolia, and stayed on because the people are great—some of the best I've worked with—and the company is fantastic. I began as sales manager, and am now a director of business management. In this role, I develop new business and assist in outside sales, including sales to other Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies business units.
"This company is very professional, and will always take the responsible role in any project or process. It has very high morals and expects that from the team. They have developed technologies that are interesting and important, and make an employee proud to be associated with them.
"Some of the best reasons to work here include the unlimited potential for growth, mobility for anyone who wants a career that is global, great stability, and high integrity. Veolia offers challenges and opportunities, and you can easily excel, move up, and earn great rewards. The company looks for rising stars and helps move them into leadership roles. They provide excellent training, invest in their teams, and offer opportunities for the group to mix fun with work.
"The feelings of cooperation and respect go all the way to the top of the organization. Selling a project in Chile with the cooperation of VWS Argentina and VWS Chile was a great accomplishment and a perfect example of the teamwork we enjoy. It gives you the feeling that anything can be accomplished."
Jason, Process Engineering Group Manager
"What attracted me to the field of water solutions were the potential positive, tangible impact my work would have, and the perceived relative stability and rewards. There were a number of factors in choosing Veolia, related to the quality of life and simply what the business does and the services and technologies it provides.
"As a process engineering group manager for our biosolids and bioenergy group, I manage a small group of process engineers. My primary responsibilities include process and technology development, design, startup, and operator training for processes related to municipal wastewater and treatment-plant sludge—and processes that convert this resource to energy and other beneficial products.
"My work relates directly to public health and the environment, so it has required me to think about the impact of what I do professionally. It engages me to become proactive, keep up to date with public policy, regulatory authorities like the EPA, upcoming legislation, and the latest research in our field.
"Those who thrive in this company are the ones who are engaged in what they do, are proactive, and have a sense of urgency. Employees with Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies have a significant power of influence with regard to environmental impact, from the bottom up. And with that comes great responsibility."
David, Team Lead, Ontario Instrumentation and Equipment
"I was excited by the size of Veolia, as it was larger than my previous employer, and the opportunity in Ontario, which was to build and develop a new market while generating new revenue to contribute to our existing department based out of Montreal.
"My role is to establish working relationships with consulting firms and municipalities within the water and wastewater market, while highlighting the value of working with Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies based on our expertise and service. I develop and implement strategies with team members and upper management that ensure the success of our business, while matching the goals, objectives, and values of the overall organization.
"Working with this organization has raised my awareness of the environment to a conscious level. I feel that all the business sectors of Veolia have a positive impact on the environment, and can appreciate that be they large or small, our actions within and outside of work do make the world a better place to live.
"One of the Veolia core values is cohesion through diversity,' which has allowed many in our company to travel to foreign destinations, change positions/fields, and broaden our own personal and professional experiences. The positive manner in which Veolia promotes this value makes it very different than most organizations."
James, Technical Resource Engineer, Technical Department
"I chose to work in water because of the ever-growing need and variety of what I would get to do. Water is a common thread throughout society and an asset that will always be in demand. Water is also a field that draws on all aspects and types of disciplines, from chemistry, engineering and microbiology to information technology, accounting and management.
"I like variety, creativity, working with different skill sets, and learning. My position as a technical resource engineer and Veolia's flexible, team-player approach allows me to focus on my core job responsibilities and reach out to support others as my time and interest allows. Currently, I am a technical resource engineer. In this role, I conduct and develop training programs, provide technical support to employees and customers, develop software tools, write, and promote environmental-impact tools, including those related to carbon-footprint and water-impact index issues. I also get to be involved in marketing and community outreach.
"During my tenure at Veolia, I have learned and continue to learn about the chemistries of water and the solutions to problems, be they service, chemistry, or equipment solutions. Professionally, my experience here has allowed me to obtain my Professional Engineer (PE) license, and my Certified Water Technologist (CWT) license.
"Veolia's participation in water-related trade organizations has allowed me to be a contributing member and help enhance the field of water beyond the walls of our company. Veolia's reach around the globe has exposed me to new ways of thinking and an even greater support structure for any issues we face."
Vicky, Receptionist, Human Resources
"A business acquaintance shared with me that the company had a good reputation in the community as well as globally. In addition, I was very interested in environmental issues and how they affect our homes and total physical health.
"In checking out the Veolia website, I was impressed at the magnitude and outreach of the company and the strides they are making in creating such a positive impact throughout the world relative to environmental issues. I was also pleased with the benefit package offered to full-time employees.
"Working here has helped me to become more aware of how the environment and various processes affect our water negatively, and some of the procedures that can be implemented to purify the water. It has definitely influenced my customer service skills as I speak with clients on a daily basis.
"It's exciting to be in a work environment with cutting-edge technology. The company executives mix right in with all of our staff and are very friendly. Management is open to constructive ideas from employees and often willing to implement some of them."
