An Oklahoma Safety Milestone for Blackwell Treatment Facilities and Veolia Water
City of Blackwell treatment facilities mark 11 years without a single lost-time accident
BLACKWELL, Okla. September 5, 2013 – The partnership between Blackwell’s water and wastewater treatment facilities and Veolia Water North America (Veolia) just celebrated a milestone that’s especially significant for its 11 employees: Reaching 11 consecutive years without a single lost-time accident.
“We’re extremely proud of this achievement, because it represents the care our employees have for each other and for the city’s facilities,” said Franus Darian Tomkiewicz, Veolia’s Project Manager at Blackwell Treatment Facilities. “This milestone shows the partnership’s collective effort to implement and to closely follow a regular safety training program for all of the staff.”
In 2002, Veolia Water signed a contract with the City of Blackwell to operate and manage the 1.6 MGD wastewater treatment facility, 3.3 MGD water treatment facility, water distribution system and sewer collection system, serving approximately 9,000 Oklahomans in Blackwell and the Blackwell Rural Water District. The recent milestone is part of Veolia’s long-standing track record in meeting and exceeding industry standards for safety.
This year, Veolia’s safety performance record surpassed municipal and private-sector results for the sixth year in a row. The company’s Lost-Time Incidence Rate (LTIR), representing injuries or illnesses resulting in time away from work, was 86 percent below the national average for municipal operations. And Veolia’s Recordable Incidence Rate (RIR) was 61 percent below the national average for municipal operations.
“This is a credit to the entire Oklahoma team. The employees take immense pride in their work and in serving the city,” added Tomkiewicz. “We’ve worked with the city to invest the time to implement the best safety practice in the workplace, and we’re very proud when it shows in a milestone like this.”
