Wipes causing backups and clogged pipes for water utilities

After discovering a mass the size of a Volkswagen Bug inside the sludge storage tank, wastewater operators in New London, Connecticut and other wastewater utilities are working to educate the public on what can be flushed.

Many supposedly “flushable” wipes, along with fats, oils and grease can combine in pipes and tanks, causing problems for sewer systems and local utilities.
