John Gibson President and Chief Operating Officer Now leading Veolia North America’s Municipal and Commercial business, John Gibson previously served as Senior Vice President for the South Region where he supported the water, wastewater and energy operations in the southern United States. Prior to this role, John served as the Vice President of Veolia Energy’s South Region operations, where he oversaw, managed and supported energy projects in the region.
John has been with Veolia since 1994, and has more than 25 years of experience in utility management and operations. John joined Veolia’s energy business as a Marketing Engineer in 1994, and went on to serve in a variety of roles including Manager of Business Development, Director of Sales and Marketing and Vice President and Manager (in Baltimore and Atlanta). As a result, John has been involved a number of key Municipal and Commercial projects. These include an OM&M contract for a regional 90-MGD surface water treatment plant and a 200-MGD raw water pump station, a 9,795 lb/hr steam system for a commercial client and an OM&M contract serving more than 2.5 million people.
Before joining Veolia, John worked at Aspen Systems Corporation, Air Products and Chemicals and the U.S. Navy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree in General Administration from the University of Maryland.
Michael V. Byrnes P.E. Senior Vice President- Sales and Marketing, Chief Operating Officer- SourceOne In his role as Senior Vice President for the Municipal and Commercial business, Mike leads the Business Development and Sales teams as they support the development and transition of energy and municipal water and wastewater projects. Additionally, he serves as the Principal in Charge and Chief Operating Officer for Peer Performance Solutions offerings and the SourceOne business.
Prior to his current role, Mike served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Veolia Energy North America’s subsidiary, SourceOne Inc. While in this position, Mike managed some of the most visible and successful distributed generation projects in the New York City metro area.
With more than 30 years of experience, Mike has worked with Trigen Energy Corporation, Dalkia North America, Con Edison and the U.S. Merchant Marine in both managerial and operational capacities. Through these roles, Mike’s energy engineering expertise has grown to include all aspects of distributed generation/power plant design, development and operation, combined heat and power projects and environmental permitting.
Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering & Nautical Science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and an MBA from Long Island University.
Lanita McCauley Bates, Esq. Senior Vice President of Operations Lanita leads Veolia North America’s water, wastewater and energy operations in the West region. This includes managing the delivery of services and oversight of the company’s projects for governmental, municipal and commercial clients in the Western U.S. and Canada.
Prior to her current role, Lanita served as the Senior Counsel for Veolia in the West region. In this role, she supported business operations, particularly the delivery of Peer Performance Solutions and design-build-operate contract work, and provided legal support for the projects. Her career with Veolia began in 2003 as the Corporate Counsel for Veolia Water’s contract with Indianapolis. In this capacity, she was responsible for ensuring compliance with the management agreement, served as the legal liaison and was part of a management team responsible for providing water service to nearly a million people.
Before joining Veolia, Lanita was a Sole Practitioner in the State of Indiana. She regularly advised clients on contractual matters, drafted corporate documents and prepared terms and conditions for commercial contracts. Lanita holds a law degree from Indiana University and is certified with the Indiana State Bar and the United States District Court in both the southern and northern districts of Indiana.
Keavin Nelson, P.E. Senior Vice President of Operations Keavin provides leadership and support for water, wastewater and energy operations in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. This includes managing business groups that provide operations and maintenance and design-build-operate services to municipal, governmental and commercial clients.
Keavin joined Veolia in 2000 and has nearly 40 years of experience in the water and wastewater industry. During that time, Keavin has spent 20 years in senior level management roles helping support major projects, renewals, business development efforts, capital programs and ongoing operations. Additionally, he has directed design-build-operate project development and been responsible for multi-site operations, profit and strategic planning, client and labor relations, process re-engineering and contract negotiations.
Before joining Veolia, Keavin worked in a variety of engineering and management positions in the water and wastewater industry. He began his career as a staff engineer with an architectural firm specializing in water and wastewater projects, before assuming leadership positions with Wheelabrator EOS, U.S. Water and ADS Environmental. Keavin holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Structural Design/ Construction Management from Pennsylvania State University and is currently working towards his MBA.
Charles Melcher Senior Vice President of Operations Chuck provides management and leadership for water, wastewater and energy operations in the Central Region of the U.S. and Canada. This includes managing the business groups providing operations and management and design-build-operate services to municipal, governmental and commercial clients in the region.
Steve Kruger Senior Vice President of Operations Steve Kruger, Senior Vice President, for Veolia North America’s Municipal and Commercial Business provides leadership and support for water, wastewater and energy operations in the South region. This includes managing business groups that provide operations and maintenance and design-build-operate services to municipal, governmental and commercial clients.
Steve joined Veolia in 1989 and has 40 years of civil/sanitary engineering experience providing reliable, resilient, and sustainable water and wastewater treatment services. He has provided leadership in support of major projects, renewals, business development efforts, capital programs, disaster response coordination and ongoing operations.
Additionally, he directs a staff overseeing design-build-operate project development and been responsible for multi-site operations, profit and strategic planning, client and labor relations, process re-engineering and contract negotiations.
Steve holds a degree in Civil/Sanitary Engineering from Tufts University.
