Las Vegas
Challenge
Las Vegas, the world's entertainment capital, welcomes 37 million visitors each year and is also one of the fastest growing areas on the United States. Our client, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), faces major challenges in meeting the growing demand for more service, in an efficient, sustainable manner.
Veolia Transportation's Solution
Since 1992, we have operated the entire fixed route bus service in Las Vegas under contract to the RTC. This is the largest transit operation in the U.S. that is operated by a private sector company. We deliver over 65 million passenger trips per year through the regular fixed route bus service, a bus rapid transit (BRT) service called "MAX" and an innovative double-decker bus service on the "Strip" called the "Deuce". We employ some 900 bus operators and perform vehicle maintenance 24 hours a day on multiple vehicle types, all of which must perform well in the hot temperatures of Las Vegas.
Results
- Operating around the clock for residents and visitors alike, Las Vegas' integrated public transit system is recognized as one of the most efficient and cost-effective in the United States. We transport 45 passengers per service hour versus the US average of 27.5.
- Our on-time performance is among the best in the U.S.
- We are making our operations more sustainable, focused on conserving energy and fuel. We are training all operators in "green driving" techniques, reducing idling and using environmentally friendly products in our maintenance garages.
